چکیده

Many problems today need the computing power that is only available by using large scale parallel processing. For a signi cant number of these problems, the density of the global communications between the individual processors, dominates the performance of the whole parallel implementation on a distributed memory multiprocessor system. In these cases, the design of the interconnection network for the processors is known to play a signi cant part in the e cient implementation of real problems. Important criteria to optimise the e ciency of a con guration are the maximum and average distance a message has to travel between processors. Minimum path systems are irregular multiprocessor computer architectures which optimise these criteria. These architectures provide an e cient alternative to the more common regular topologies, for solving real applications in parallel. This paper presents new results for two combinatorial problems that occur during the generation of these optimal irregular con gurations. These are: 1. The design of the optimum interconnection network between the processors for con gurations containing up to 128 processors. 2. The design of the routing tables to provide the optimal routing of messages within these irregular networks. The paper shows how these combinatorial problems have been solved, using genetic algorithms for the rst problem and a random local search procedure for the second. It also includes a comparison with the results obtained for regular topologies, for example: hypercubes, tori, and rings.

An Efficient Genetic Algorithm for Task Scheduling on Heterogeneous Computing Systems Based on TRIZ

An efficient assignment and scheduling of tasks is one of the key elements in effective utilization of heterogeneous multiprocessor systems. The task scheduling problem has been proven to be NP-hard is the reason why we used meta-heuristic methods for finding a suboptimal schedule. In this paper we proposed a new approach using TRIZ (specially 40 inventive principles). The basic idea of thi...

Scheduling of a flexible flow shop with multiprocessor task by a hybrid approach based on genetic and imperialist competitive algorithms

This paper presents a new mathematical model for a hybrid flow shop scheduling problem with multiprocessor tasks in which sequence dependent set up times and preemption are considered. The objective is to minimize the weighted sum of makespan and maximum tardiness. Three meta-heuristic methods based on genetic algorithm (GA), imperialist competitive algorithm (ICA) and a hybrid approach of GA a...

Optimisation of assembly scheduling in VCIM systems using genetic algorithm

Assembly plays an important role in any production system as it constitutes a significant portion of the lead time and cost of a product. Virtual computer-integrated manufacturing (VCIM) system is a modern production system being conceptually developed to extend the application of traditional computer-integrated manufacturing (CIM) system to global level. Assembly scheduling in VCIM systems is ...
